If you'd like to direct a domain name that you have to another domain name or subdomain, one way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain address being pointed loses all its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain it's redirected to. This way, if you are using a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be pointed to the site that you have created, but it will also appear in the Internet browser address bar at all times. Other possible uses of a CNAME record are to direct all of the targeted traffic from different subdomains to their main domain address, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain because this kind of a record created for the main domain address makes it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Shared Web Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which we offer with each and every Linux shared web hosting, will enable you to create CNAME records for any domain name or subdomain hosted inside the account with only a few clicks. If you aren't confident how to go about it, you can check the video tutorial that's available inside the Control Panel, read the in depth Help article on the subject, or just simply contact us and we can assist you 24/7, though it is unlikely that you'll experience any problems as all it takes to set up a new CNAME record is to select a domain/subdomain, enter the hostname you're redirecting to, and save the change. The new record is going to be fully active within the hour. Using CNAME records allows you to have better control over your domains and website content and our system is simple and user-friendly enough to allow individuals with no previous experience to set up this kind of records with ease.
