A cron job is a command, that works conveniently in the background over a predefined period of time and it executes a script in a web hosting account. There are no limitations in regard to what the script can be - PHP, Bash, Perl, etcetera, what it can do, or what exactly your file extension will be. Some examples are sending an everyday report with all of the end user activity on a given website, creating a routine backup or erasing the content in a particular folder. These kinds of tasks as well as almost every other script can be executed on intervals specified by the user - each couple of minutes, hours or days, and even once per month or once per year depending on the exact purpose. Using cron jobs to automate diverse aspects of managing a website saves considerable time and efforts.

Cron Jobs in Shared Web Hosting

When you get any of our shared web hosting plans, you will be able to create cron jobs with a couple of clicks in your Hepsia Control Panel even if you have not done that before. Hepsia is quite easy to use, so instead of writing numbers and asterisks on specific places, which is the usual method to create a cron job, you can choose the minutes, hours or days a script has to be run using simple drop-down menus. This is done in the Cron Jobs section of the Control Panel and, of course, you can always use the first method as well, in case you are experienced enough and you prefer it. In either case, you will also need to enter the path to the script that'll be executed and the path to the PHP, Python or Perl system files inside your account. The aforementioned is available in the Control Panel and you can copy/paste it, but if you encounter any issues, you can contact your tech support team.

Cron Jobs in Semi-dedicated Servers

Setting up a cron job in our system is very easy. Once you log in to the Hepsia Control Panel, which comes with all of the semi-dedicated server accounts, you will be able to go to the Cron Jobs section where you just have to choose the directory path to the script file to be executed along with the command path for the specific language the script was written in - PHP, Perl, Python, Bash. You will be able to find the latter in the Control Panel, so you can copy and paste it with just a couple of clicks. Then, choose the time period for your cron via drop-down menus for the months, days, hours or minutes and you will be all set. Our cron job setup wizard makes the whole process very easy and intuitive, so you will not have any problems if you do not have previous experience. If you are more experienced, you can also take advantage of the conventional cron format with the two paths, digits and asterisks typed on one line.
