SpamAssassin checks the header field and the body of each email message, calculates a spam score and then proceeds according to the level that you have opted for. Every mailbox can have a different setting and you can select if the emails that the anti-spam filter labels as spam should be erased or re-sent to another email address where you can check them at a later time, so as to avoid erasing an authentic email. Switching to a different level or deactivating the spam protection is also amazingly easy.
